Contemporary Final Design Face Chart and Inspirations

My Inspirations for my final make-up Design

When deciding what to do for my designs for my face charts, I played around with different colours, secondary, complimentary and monochromatic colours. I based my designs on the lady in waiting Anne Vavasour and linked my character to Amy Winehouse a modern day character, as I saw similarities that matched in personalities.

My Chosen lady in waiting and modern day personality
Anne Vavasour & Amy Winehouse
'The Mysterious & secretive'

Anne Vavasour...
Anne Vavasour, became a gentlewoman of the bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth I in 1580, she was a mistress of Edward De Vere , Earl of Oxford (1550-1604), Anne gave birth to Edwards Illegitimate son, she hid her pregnancy from everyone and kept it a secret for the entire 9 months, it came as a shock when she gave birth in the 'maidens chambers' at Whitehall Palace. Both were sent to the tower of London by Queen Elizabeth and after Edward was caught trying to leave the country to avoid punishment he was also bought to the tower.

Anne solely raised her son on her own, the family of both Anne and Edward had duels for many years, due to their love affair. When researching Anne Vavasour, it seemed she was very confused and had many love affairs during her time. She was also married before becoming a mistress to Edward and became another mistress to another nobleman Sir Henry Lee (1533-1611) where she gave birth to another Illegitimate Son in 1589 and herself and Henry lived openly as a couple, where Queen Elizabeth accepted this.

Amy Winehouse Modern personality inspiration for final design

"I don't think I'm gonna be at all famous, I don't think I can handle it"- Amy Winehouse

All about Amy and why she inspired me for my final design...

It seemed Anne never got her act together, she was confused, mysterious and deceitful to others, therefore I related her story to a modern day character which is Amy Winehouse, as she was a broken person, mysterious, very here there and everywhere throughout her 'rock 'n' roll' time, she wasn't in serious relationships, she was a powerful, wealthy woman with an odd character who didn't seem to go in the right direction.

Amy was quiet shy, a confused woman, her heart was in the right place, she loved her friends and family even though things didn't go right she socialised with wrong people and it spiraled out of control with her drugs habits.

I also got inspiration from her make-up, which was very bold and dark and heavy around the eye area, so I used this in my final design. I reflected both the Anne and Amy and their masking of lies, mystery and being hurt. They both were shielded away from people and never got too close.

I feel this reflected her mysterious, dark past of alcohol and drug abuse, it was like a mask to cover up her realness to hide behind it. So I wanted to create a mask like make-up design in my final designs, so I played around bold, dark and bright colours, with definition.

I wanted to use harsh, bold contouring because in our time now this is very popular among celebrities and in the fashion industry, therefore I wanted to incorporate this into my design also. I also have kept in lines with the Elizabethan Era, with keeping the skin as pale as popular with mixing my products, blocking out the brows in white and different colours, I have also used the heart shape on the lips, to define the pout and to really show the burst of colour, to reflect the 'Rose Bud' from the Tudor Rose, Elizabethan era, it was an honored, respectable symbol and was referenced throughout portraits and royalty in their outfits/ hair pieces/ jewelry.

Overall, I wanted to mix the lady in waiting I chose with linking the modern day character and keeping it Elizabethan with a contemporary twist and I feel I have created this in my designs.

I have also had inspiration from Avant Garde catwalk shows with the make-up, I founded the inspiration from them because they are so bold and extravagant with their designs and wanted to put this into my designs.

Contemporary Avant Garde Designs that inspired me

In the above image I really liked how they kept it Elizabethan with the pale skin and blocked out white eyebrows, with the subtle contour and smokey eyes that have been winged out to create that contemporary feel, I also like the dark musky pink lip colour which is a darker shade, it all works well with the Elizabethan theme but with a edgy look of a modern twist, which inspired me to use the colours in one of my final design.

This image from Avant Garde, I love with the use of curls in a messy, bold, modern way, it shows the Elizabethan design with the shape of the curls that form a heart shape across the head and the use of curls in the front of the hairline that represent roses and curls were popular in the Elizabethan time but tightly pinned to their head, but they have loosened the curls in an unsymmetrical way to give it an edge and a modern design. This photo inspired me, especially the make-up with the use of silver and shade of black around the eyes and on the cheek bones, it gives the feel of deceitful, mysterious and an edgy feel which is what I am after with my final design, relating it all to the lady in waiting and my chosen modern day character.

This image gave me great inspiration, I like the fact it's dark and mysterious but still keeping the pale complexion that links it to the Elizabethan style, I wanted to incorporate a design that was dark and edgy because looking into a lot of Elizabeth women there stories were mad, they were secretive especially with the lady in waiting I chose- Anne Vavasour and with using dark colour would really show what I wanted to reflect in my make-up design.

Front view of my final design, with the entire design carried out. I really enjoyed using pale, dark and metallic colours together to set the mood and tone I wanted to reflect in my design, I used these to show mystery with a dark edgy look, which was inspired by my chosen lady in waiting Anne Vavasour and modern day character Amy Winehouse.
