Creating the perfect base

All about that Base!

Applying a base with use of a foundation brush over the face then buff the foundation with the Kabuki Brush and for blending use the rounded brushes.

Apply the base foundation all over the face, ears and blend down to the neck area, show it all blends into one and you haven't got your client looking like they have a mask on. It's important to blend and to give a good application.

Types of bases you can use, it does depend on their skin type or what your client prefers the feel of, always recommend what you feel would work well for them, giving options is always good. The examples of bases: Oil free foundation, cream foundation, grease base, liquid and tinted moisturiser. I believe it also depends on what occasion it is, as I would use a lighter coverage foundation for daily wear and a heavier foundation for evening.
Make sure you evaluate your model with what skin type and tones they have and what you're going to use to cover imperfections e.g. dark circles, red tones, blemishes, yellow tones.
After the use of foundation you use concealer on those particular areas, which is done by dabbing onto the skin for great coverage. You finish off the conceal with buffing between layers, to really blend and work in the product so it is a even coverage. Furthermore, use  a concealer that's 1 or 2 shades lighter then the foundation you're using and finish the base off with powder, this fixes the make-up application and takes down the shine.

Useful information for concealing:

  • Pink tones take out blue tones within the skin and use green to eliminate redness in areas on your models face.
